"Software for Nikon Digital Cameras (such as Nikon View) is generally not TWAIN compatible as a camera is a device which produces a finished image based on the automatic exposure calculations and the controls on the camera body.
The exception is Nikon Capture (for the Nikon D-SLR cameras) which does permit control of the camera and manipulation of the image parameters before (and after) acquiring the image. However, rather than communicate through the TWAIN interface, Nikon Capture can be set to make the image open automatically in a target application such as PhotoShop™, thereby bypassing the problems associated with TWAIN compatibility.
Windows 2000 includes a TWAIN driver for some COOLPIX cameras connected by serial link. When the Nikon View is installed and the camera is accessed, the TWAIN driver will not work. Nikon does not offer technical support for the Windows TWAIN camera driver."
