Mi piacerebbe avere un obiettivo all around per le mie uscite in mtb: ora uso una canon compatta con cui però posso lavorare in manuale. i soggetti sono amici ripresi in azione su salti o su single track di montagna, dunque elementi in movimento; e sfondi di paesaggi..chiaramente di montagna
Non porto con me la mia d50 poichè dovrei portarmi dietro il 18-55 e un 70-300....un po' troppo (peso) per i miei lunghi giri: ma il desiderio è forte!

Sono un nuovo iscritto che desidera esporre la sua opinione su questa'ottica, che come le cose che fanno di tutto non fanno bene niente.
Ho acquistato da poco il corpo macchina della D300 unitamente all'ottica in oggetto, anche perché su un'articolo apparso su experience, a cura di Valerio Pardi del marzo 2007, veniva decantata "lo zoom delle meraviglie".
1. Della fotocamera ho dovuto restituirla il giorno dopo al negozio dove l'avevo acquistata, ovvero un negozio autorizzato Nital, dove mi è stata sostituita, in quanto non si riusciva a mettere a fuoco in nessun modo. Ma questa è un'altra storia.

Conclusion - Pros
Huge 11.1x focal length range, ideal travel lens
Decent build quality - much better than Nikon's 18-55mm kit lens
Very effective vibration reduction system, at least 3 stops benefit
Excellent fast, silent autofocus with manual override
High image quality in the normal to short telephoto range, and good at 200mm
Conclusion - Cons

Just occasionally, the old cliches are still the best, and with the 18-200mm VR the phrase 'jack of all trades, master of none' springs immediately to mind. It's a lens which delivers somewhat flawed results over its entire zoom range; where it's sharp, it has heavy distortion, and when that distortion comes under control at the long end, it loses sharpness. Its close-up performance is reasonable, but not spectacular, and overall it will likely be outperformed optically by a cheaper combination of standard and telephoto zooms. So for a certain type of photographer interested mainly in absolute image quality, this may well cause it to be regarded as nothing more than an expensive snapshot lens.
But to dismiss the 18-200mm VR based purely on its optical quality is to miss the point quite fundamentally. The whole idea of such a lens is to allow the photographer to travel light and never miss a shot while changing lenses, or indeed not to have to risk water or dust entering the camera in adverse conditions. So what you do get for your money is a hugely flexible zoom range which can handle the vast majority of photographic opportunities, coupled with excellent autofocus and vibration reduction systems. And all of this is wrapped up in a relatively compact package, with build quality which feels solid without being excessively heavy. It really is a lens you can leave on your camera all day long and scarcely miss a shot, and it has to be said, this makes it a lot of fun to use.
So when all is said and done, we have to understand that superzooms are essentially about making some optical compromises to provide the broadest possible range in a single lens, and it's up to each individual to decide whether those compromises are acceptable. I wouldn't recommend the 18-200mm to someone whose primary interests were either architecture or wildlife, for example, but for the photographer who wants to shoot a little bit of everything and not have to change lenses, it's more than fit for purpose. Ultimately this is probably as good a superzoom as money can buy, so as long as its limitations are recognised and understood, it has to be recommended.

Verdict
Regarding some glowing reviews available on the web the expectation were rather high. Unfortunately the (tested sample of the) Nikkor AF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 G IF-ED VR II DX wasn't able to convince completely. Weak points are rather hefty distortions and high vignetting (@ f/3.5) at 18mm. Apart from a few weak spots the resolution figures are quite good though and it is possible to get very decent images from this lens under field conditions. The VR can surely help to save the day in situations where similar zooms must fail utterly The build quality is a little soso for a lens in this price class and probably the biggest disappointment. All in all the Nikkor is a highly interesting lens but not without flaws (hardly surprising for a 11x zoom).

Per me si, lo sarà anche per te ? Finche non sei tu a provarlo non puoi saperlo....
Per te potrà essere perfetto o inutile, ma nessuno te lo puo' dire in anticipo, dipende da quello che cerchi, dalle tue abitudini, dalle tue condizioni di ripresa ecc.
Del resto quando fai le foto sei tu a farle, mica ti porti dietro uno di dpreview per farle al posto tuo, quindi il suo giudizio è utilie leggerlo, ma non ti aspettare che sia la Verità valida per tutti.

IL VR aiuta ma non è miracoloso, per come la vedo io è meglio non abusarne e continuare a seguire le vecchie e care regolette per evitare il mosso.

Comincia a scattare e chiudi ad ogni scatto uno stop di diaframma, in modalità AV il tempo si adeguerà di conseguenza diventando man mano sempre più lento. Alla fine riguardi le foto e vedi qual'è il TUO tempo di sicurezza.

Ho fatto qualche prova e devo dire che se il VR non è miracoloso poco ci manca.

Si, un pò più di rumore è normale ed è dovuto al proprio all'attività del VR... (ne puoi avere la prova disattivando il VR stesso)

Quest'ottica a mio avviso è una grande ottica... Sono andato a Parigi con la mia D300 e quest'ottica, ho fatto scatti di notte con tempi mostruosamente bassi senza cavalletto e click ....foto perfette!!!
Vedere per credere, per me prima era un sogno fare questi scatti di notte o in condizioni di scarsissima luce!!
